History:

"Veronique" is one of three "Super" Westsail 42's built. The owners have found her so suitable for very comfy bluewater cruising because her decks were built to the sheerline. That feature gives the boat 8" more headroom throughout the vessel.

Crew and visitors do not have to squeeze into a dinette. The central salon table is capable of accommodating eight at dinner. A sheerline-deck also eliminates many head knocks in the forward berths, and far fewer head knocks are acquired while traveling the passage from the salon to the aft stateroom. On top of that, the raised deck enables the vessel to carry double fuel and water comfy below the floors.

Before this present owner bought her in 1998, the boat cruised the Hawaiian Islands, Oregon, and British Columbia up to Alaska. From 1998-99 the present owner instituted a major $48,000 upgrade at the legendary Deatons Shipyard, at Oriental, NC. This included a total overhaul of the Perkins diesel and a change of the steering system from hydraulic to cable-quadrant, now connected to a Brooks & Gatehouse autopilot with a Series II computer that operates in three modes; steer to compass, steer to wind, and steer to way-point. It's very simple, and very accurate and it has gone many thousands of sea miles without a peep of trouble.

This owner and his family have cruised Lake Ontario, the Thousand Islands, the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, and twice cruised the Azores. Based on North Carolina, she has cruised four winters in the Caribbean. The present owner would not be selling her if he weren't 72 years old, and getting a bit creaky in the joints.

On Deck:

The first owner named the boat Sea Biscuit because he had connection with the great racehorse, hence that's why 10" bronze sea horses adorn the deck. The boat had a regular array of sails, including a spinnaker and trysail. She also has a heavy-duty Profurl and working genny. A Hydrovane, a purely wind-driven steering system, is attached to the stern of the boat. She carries a 60 lb. CQR on 250-feet of 3/8" chain, plus a 60 Ib. Danforth and a 44 Ib. CQR kedge/lunch hook. The Lofrans windlass is new. Air vent cowls are Vetus Yogi-sized stainless steel. The portlights are solid bronze, with heavy "dogs" to ensure waterproof seal. Navigation lights are set on the pulpit and mast-top. The Amp Air generator needs replacing, but bracket on mizzen and all wiring is in place.

Cabin Layout:

Arrangement of berths are standard, with two wide berths in fo'c's'le, and double bunk in after stateroom, with private sofa and elaborate washbasin. Two settees in the salon readily turn into bunks, with canvas sideboards when passage running. Shower, hand basin, toilet & jumbo bath situated forward of mainmast. The port-stern of the saloon steps down into a galley with propane stove, with three burners, and spacious oven and two big sinks. There are MANY storage lockers and an icebox against aft bulkhead. There is Sea-Frost cooler below the cockpit, but in the Caribbean we found block ice more effective. There is a water heater installed but seldom used. Navigators table, and numerous electronic readouts aft of starboard saloon.
