Comments:

A major refit began in 1995-1999 at Cabrillo Boat Yard in Southern California. With the help of Bud Taplin, work continued at Lake Mead, Nevada. Too many parts to list. Invoices are available. Photo history also available. In early 2000 work stopped and we went sailing! This has been a fresh water boat for 18 years. She has been sailed in light winds and gale force 8 with great joy, pleasure and safety! Penguin is now awaiting her new adventure !

Accommodations:

Salon coverts to a full size queen bed. It will also seat 6 guests for a quiet dinner and boat drinks. V-berth coverts to queen size shoulder width, and it also has been modified four inches for more headroom. She has dockside A/C 110-volt, a Force 10 propane wall heater, TV, DVD, VHS and stereo. She has been a second home and will be missed !

Deck & Hull:

All teak decks. Fiberglass hull, with 9 bronze Groco seacocks. Screws were replaced with bronze hex bolts for easy replacement of barrel cone, some of which were replaced and there are spares. Six new sets of cast bronze hawse pipes, two midship, replaced. She has 11 opening ports and two skylight hatches, one in the salon and another in V-berth. Two new Barient OS 24-41 STC self-tailing winches for easy single-handed sailing. Two new mast stanchions, long double rail bow pulpit and new lifelines were added for safety.

Galley:

Propane Shipmate two burner range with oven, microwave, sink, and icebox with refrigeration. Pressure water with manual foot pumps, fresh and raw water options. Oil lamp in corner over stove and sink.

Engine:

Westerbeke 27 #16758C412. Replaced, hoses, belts, water pumps fresh and raw. Replaced alternator and starter with original Westerbeke parts and have two new in the box replacements (1 each). Hurth 100-2 R transmission NR15-23481. This auxiliary power has never failed to start, nor left me stranded. Parts are available worldwide. Some spares are on the boat.

Plumbing:

New, 2013 fresh water pump. 110-volt Titan hot water heater with shower. Hot and cold pressure water. Raw water washdown pump. Two new poly water tanks to be installed , 38 gallons each, totaling 76 gallons. We are currently using the original 35 gallon tank.

Electrical:

New batteries in July 2013. One house and one engine starting, both 27D. 6 stage 3 auto 110-volt battery charger with battery switch. New AC 110-volt marine grade spec wiring, wall plugs, and circuit breaker panel installed in 2008

Electronics:

2005 Icom VHF radio with masthead antenna. Standard Horizon knot and depth instruments. Hand held Garmin GPS. Two Navico tiller autopilots.

Mast and Rigging:

LeFiell tabernacle mast and all aluminum spars and spreaders with lights. All standing rigging, turnbuckles, tangs, boomkin crosspiece and lifelines were replaced during the refit and more. Invoices are available.

Sails:

By cruising standards sails have light use, not used until 2000. New set made at T/A Sails, Wilmington, CA. Still have old yankee. Replaced headsail with larger Kern sail in 2006 on Harken roller furling system for easy single handed sailing.

Ground Tackle:

Two speed manual windlass, Simpson Lawrence 555. Main anchor is a 35 lb. Bruce with 100 ft. of new chain and 150 ft. nylon rode. 20 lb. CQR with 25 ft. new chain and 150 ft. of nylon rode. Two Danforth anchors, one stern mounted with anchor roller and one stored in the V-berth.

Extras:

Cockpit coamings (custom) and 3-inch hawse pipes midships, which helps keep you dry. New dodger and bimini in 2009, with front and side weather curtains. New sail covers all made of Sunbrella. 2005 hypalon 10 ft. dinghy with 5 hp. Tohatsu outboard motor. A teak boarding ladder mounted on deck. Lazyjacks and jiffy reefing on mainsail. Magnum stainless steel propane BBQ.
