HISTORY:

Maya is a kit boat, completed and launched in 1977, in Costa Mesa. We are the third owners. She was professionally built by original owner with oversized bronze ports, and teak decks. Sailed exclusively in Southern California, she later spent five years cruising in the Sea of Cortez, based out of La Paz. We purchased her in 1999, rigging her for long term cruising while sailing her in San Francisco until two years ago when we took her down the coast to Zihuatanejo, Mexico.

CONSTRUCTION:

The hull is hand-laid fiberglass, with 10 opening bronze ports with screens. The interior wood trim is a combination of African mahogany with teak cabinetry. Bulkheads are bonded to the hull. There was no blistering when the bottom was painted in 2005. The floor is teak and holly sole. Main hatch and forward hatch are teak.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Going forward from the cockpit hatch, to starboard is the navigation area - chart table with chart drawers beneath with a hanging locker adjoining. To port is the U-shaped galley, with a drop-leaf table on centerline, with seating that makes into a double berth, behind which are lockers with custom cushions. Across is the pullout settee berth and above, a pilot berth. Over the sinks in the galley area, is a brass kerosene lamp. There are two bronze kerosene lamps mounted on the port and starboard bulkheads in the main salon. A Force Ten propane heater is mounted by the folding table. Next, to port, is the head area with a Jabsco head, three-way valve and holding tank. There is a mirror, teak medicine cabinet and extra storage behind sink. A SS drinking faucet fed by shore water or DC pump is beside the sink. Opposite the head is a hanging locker with drawer storage beside it and behind it. Forward is a double berth, beneath which are a sail locker, drawer storage, and large wicker door storage. To starboard is a clothes locker with teak and wicker doors. All settee and berth cushions were new in 2000. A Seth Thomas Clock and Barometer are mounted on the starboard bulkhead. A 14" Sharp LCD TV is mounted on a swinging arm in main salon with accompaning DVD player. There are two dorade ventilators serving the main cabin, as well as dorade ventilators for the lazarette/engine compartment area.

GALLEY:

The stove is a gimbaled 2-burner SS Force 10 with broiler and oven. Enclosed storage includes utensil, spice and pot racks. Beneath that is a top load refrigerator/freezer with a "Lectric lceman" coldplate. The two sinks are SS, with DC pump or shore water, hot and cold. A hand pump for salt water and a Whale foot pump for freshwater. Magnum barbeque with 2.5 gal propane tank is installed outside on stern pulpit.

ELECTRICAL:

The house bank has two 12-volt batteries, new in 2004, with a switched series back up starter battery. Boat is professionally rewired, (2004) including AC and DC panels, with breaker switches, and original Westsail panel. There are new interior DC lights, fluorescent lights, flex brass reading lights, and an aircraft style chart light. For charging there is a high output alternator and internal battery charger. Masthead, running and spreader lights were rewired and replaced in 2005. She is wired for 110v with accompanying outlets and has a 30 amp 50' shore power cord.

ELECTRONICS AND NAV:

The teak nav station houses a standard horizon Intrepid VHF radio and an AM/FM CD radio (2006). Furuno 1623 radar. Simrad 30 Tiller Autopilot with electronic compass and external transmitting unit. A rebuilt Aries windvane (2006) is mounted on rebuilt boomkin (2000). Kenyon digital depth sounder with Kenyon multifunction speed log. A Ritchie compass (2004) is on the port exterior cabin bulkhead. Teak running light boxes are mounted on the shrouds, as well as an anchor/strobe/running light on the masthead.

SAILS:

Sail plan includes a self-tending staysail, and a Westsail main with a 3-point reef system. Included are a storm trysail, a storm jib, a drifter, a reacher, and a 130% jib. All standing rigging is 5/16 SS, with over-sized SS turnbuckles and Norseman swageless fittings. The boom rests on a bronze and teak gallows. The deck-stepped mast has steps to the masthead. A Worldcruiser SS stern pulpit with fiddle block for the mainsheet was added in 2003. The bowsprit with SS pulpit has dual lifelines and gates on both sides and boom vang, genoa tracks are mounted with adjustable cars and Barlow winches.

MECHANICAL:

A Volvo 2003 28 HP 3 cylinder diesel (rebuilt in 1998) has less than 1200 hrs. The fixed 3 bladed prop has a new cutlass bearing. There is water strainer and a fiberglass muffler with exhaust hose and shut off. The engine is fresh water-cooled with separate fuel systems for two Racor 500 filters that filter independently off of each fuel tank. The engine room has glassed-in shelving and soundproofing.
