History:
The good doctor spared no expense. During a phone conversation one evening, he mentioned offhandedly that he spent over $200,000 completing the boat. We can't verify that; but, what we can attest to is that Jura is rigged and fitted out properly and that the woodworking is exquisite - particularly the interior joinery. We took possession of Jura in February of 2002 and have cruised her more than 20,000 miles - three winters in the Exumas, considerable time on the Chesapeake Bay, and a cruise north to Maine and the Bay of Fundy during the summer of 2007. All the while, we have consistently upgraded the boat and maintained her in Bristol condition. Representative of this is the work we put into the boat during the summer of 2005. Not only did we replace all the standing rigging, we also completely reworked the engine room. Everything - engine, batteries, battery charger, switches, fuel tanks, shelves, strainers, filters, hoses, and muffler, all of it - was replaced. The new engine room is all about simplicity and orderliness, and it is spotless!
Presently, Jura is tucked away inside a building in Maine for the season. She is winterized and "snug as a bug in a rug." Barring an extraordinary turn of events (i.e. purchase sight unseen), access to the boat will not be possible until spring of 2008. Our plan is to re-commission Jura in May (as weather permits) and to begin making preparations for a summer cruise to Nova Scotia. Following re-commissioning in the spring, we would be happy to make Jura available for inspection, survey and sea trial.
