This Westsail 28 is a factory-finished boat built in 1976. She is U.S. Coast Guard documented. Heatherbell was upgraded and retrofit to virtually new condition in 1996 including mast paint, standing rigging, bottom epoxy barrier coat. Engine was rebuilt professionally in 2005 and commissioned in 2006. She has been lightly used since 2004. Heatherbell is a great boat for extended coastal voyages and is built for offshore work. She is fitted out as a go anywhere boat. She is in ready-to-cast-off condition.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Standard factory finished Westsail 28 interior layout. Anchor chain and rode most forward, next aft is forward stateroom with V berth, storage under V bunks, and with seven cabinets for clothing or equipment. A teak bookshelf is mounted to the bulkhead on the starboard side. Next aft-enclosed head to starboard and storage closet (woven cane front for airflow), storage area above closet to port. Next aft main salon with U-shape settee to starboard with icebox and large storage areas underneath and outboard of settee bench - Settee table can be removed form a large double berth. To port is the galley with SS sink and gimbaled two-burner propane gas oven, ample lockers and drawers. Next aft to port is a chart table and navigation station with lockers below. Next aft to port is a single 7 foot single bunk, with a fuel tank under it. Next teak companionway steps and with electrical panel - engine is located below the cockpit, but excellent access is had through the cabin (starboard of the steps). The cockpit was cut shallow to allow for a double berth aft on the starboard side, with the engine underneath it. (Aft berth converted to storage) Teak and holly cabin sole with cutout gives access for bilge inspection. Cabin sole lifts up for complete access. Eight bronze port lights with screens.

DECK and HULL:

• The vessel's topside and hull were painted with Awlgrip 1996.
• Single rail bow pulpit with dip.
• Stainless steel boomkin with pulpit and hoop over tiller.
• Teak main sliding hatch.
• Teak forward hatch with Plexiglass center.
• Solar vent on cabin top overhead.
• All exterior teak striped and refinished bright.
• Epoxy barrier coating applied to bottom of vessel below the waterline.

ENGINE ROOM:

• Vetus (Mitsubishi block) 3.10, 3 cylinder, 20 HP, fresh water cooled marine diesel engine (About 100 hours).
• Hurth transmission with 2 to 1 reduction.
• Racor 500 Fuel Filter; Steward Warner electric fuel pump.
• Sea strainer.
• Propeller - 2 blade; 1" SS. shaft.
• Vetus exhaust with water lift muffler, anti-siphon, high loop in exhaust line.
• Analog instrumentation - tachometer.
• Fuel tank 25 gallons.

GALLEY:

• Shipmate 2-burner propane gimbaled stove with oven, fed from two 5 lb. tanks mounted in treated wood box on the fore deck - installation in accordance with ABYC Standards.
• Bass control for solenoid shutoff in galley.
• Large top-loading icebox.
• Single, deep, stainless steel sink.
• Deck mounted solenoid gas shut-off.

WASTE HANDLING:

• Wilcox Skipper manual marine toilet.
• 13 gallon holding tank; Can be emptied through deck fitting or overboard when offshore with Whale diaphragm pump by turning Y-valve.

ELECTRICAL:

• Two position battery disconnect switch.
• Separate Starting and House batteries.
• Standard Westsail electric panel with 10 circuit breakers for 12-volt circuits.
• Incandescent lights throughout.
• Two efficient Hella reading lamps.

• LeFiell mast with tabernacle base. Boom is Isomat aluminum section with internal reefing.
• Standing rigging 9/32" 1x19 SS, Norseman lower terminals and turnbuckles.
• Running rigging (partial replacement in 2006) with internal halyards, single line reefing run to mast.
• Boom vang; 6 to 1.
• Five Barlow winches (2 x #24 for sheets; #19 self-tailing for main halyard; 2 x #15 on mast).
• Running back stays with 6:1 part purchase.
• S.S. bow and stern pulpits.

SAILS:

• Clark mainsail with battens has internal jiffy reefing system for 3 reef points.
• Dacron mail sail with 3 reef points; 7.25 ounce; 196 sq. ft.

• Ratsey genoa (130%) - 5 ounce; 390 sq. ft.

I have owned Heatherbell for eight years, but offer her for sale because I am pursuing other interests. Heatherbell is a great boat in need a new owner. She has been lovingly cared for and draws attention and compliments under sail and at anchor.
