Buffoonery was purchased in 1977 as a kit boat and then semi-professionally finished. Full teak and holly sole, teak and oak woodwork in the interior. In a recent survey, the surveyor noted that "She has a custom interior that exceeds the fit and finish of factory boats." That surveyor is well aware of the fit and finish of original Westsail factory finished boats, and made that comment directly to the current owner.
She is a cutter rig and both the rig and the sails are in decent condition. She was hauled out in December 2016 for new bottom paint - two coats of Micron 66 in black. Hull and deck are very sound and there are no leaks - she is a very dry boat. And the engine has less than 600 original hours on it. She was originally an East Coast boat and was sailed extensively in the Florida Keys before she was brought back to the Bay area.
Sleeps a total of six (6) adults. She has two berths in the stern with a marine head and holding tank to port just aft of the engine room door, as well as a sink, mirror, and bath cabinet just to starboard of the boat centerline. This was used as the master suite on the boat. Moving forward through the companionway on the starboard side is a full galley. To port is a full nav station with chart table and bench. Moving forward are settees to port and starboard with a folding leaf table between them. Just aft of the forward V-berth to port is a second lav sink and cabinet/mirror
with a stand-up shower to starboard.
DECK & Hull:
Both hull and deck are in excellent condition. No blisters on the hull and she is very sound. No leaks or breaks in the deck, and the plywood core is sound and solid. This is the center cockpit version of the boat, and has a dodger over the companionway ladder.
The galley is on the starboard side of the salon area and has fridge and gimballed propane stove/oven to starboard and double sink toward the centerline of the boat, and lots of storage and counter space. Countertops are all white laminate with teak trim and in excellent condition.
She has a Perkins 4-236 (85 HP) with less than 600 original hours. The engine has been recently serviced and starts/runs perfectly. The engine turns a 1 ¼" stainless shaft into a Borg Warner transmission which swings a 20" 3-bladed bronze prop. No dings on the prop and it was coated with Propspeed when her bottom was painted.
Hot and cold running water with a 12-V pump as well as solenoid valves for shore water. The
110-V hot water tank is under the floor in the salon. She has two lav sink (stern stateroom and forward in salon), a double sink in the galley, and a stand-up shower in the forward salon area.
Full 12-VDC and 110-VAC systems with battery charger and two shore power inlets. Dual 12-VDC
deep cycle marine AGM starting batteries - new in December 2015.
Brand new Raymarine suite of electronics:
All of this is mounted and functional with the exception of the radar. It still needs to be mounted on the mast.
- A97 Multi-Function Display w/depth sounder capability
- i70S Muti-Function Instruments Display
- Evolution 400 (EV-400) autopilot with P70R control head
- SystemPod GP2080-14 with Angle Bracket and stainless Top Plate (with A97, I70s and P70R autopilot control head mounted).
- RD418D Digital Radar with mast mount and cabling

- SeatalkHS High Speed Network Switch (802.11 Ethernet)
- ITC-5 Analog Transducer Converter

MAST & RIGGING:
She has the tall mast (53') and is rigged as a cutter. The rig was recently inspected and was deemed serviceable for moderate winds, but should be replaced before she is extensively cruised offshore.
The sails are in serviceable to good condition with no rips or tears. The running rigging is also in serviceable to good condition. The sails should be recut and the running rigging replaced before extensive offshore cruising, but she is perfectly serviceable for the Bay.
Danforth anchor with chain and rode in forward chain locker - good condition. Stern anchor attached to stern rail - again good condition.
The dock lines are all new - bow and stern lines are 1" nylon attached to tires which are chained to the dock. Four (4) ¾" spring lines to keep her well positioned in her slip. The required safety equipment is all in good condition and ready to use. There is an additional boarding ladder stored aboard. The stern rail also has a stainless barbeque which is in good condition.
